Overview
St Paul’s Cathedral is an iconic feature of the London skyline and a ‘must see’ for anyone visiting London. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century, St Paul’s Cathedral is a true masterpiece, complete with a magnificent interior, breathtaking vantage points and, of course, that world-famous awe-inspiring dome.
Majestic, timeless and atmospheric, St Paul’s welcomes thousands of visitors through its doors each year. With our historic £40 million restoration programme now nearing its completion, there has never been a better time to visit.
Gaze up into the Cathedral’s crowning masterpiece, the awe-inspiring dome, and marvel at the exquisite 18th century paintings by Sir James Thornill and 19th century mosaics. Pay tribute to some of our great national heroes, including Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Winston Churchill in the Cathedral’s Crypt and take a look at famous works of art on the Cathedral Floor. Artists include William Holman Hunt, Henry Moore and Sergi Chepik.
Visit the American Memorial Chapel, which, rebuilt after the Blitz, commemorates members of the US forces who gave their lives in Britain during the second world war.
But, of course, no trip to St Paul’s Cathedral would be complete without a trip up the winding spiral staircase to the Whispering Gallery. Sample the gallery’s unique audio effects before traveling up and out to the Stone and Golden Galleries where a breathtaking panoramic view of London awaits you.
The Whispering Gallery, Stone Gallery and Golden Gallery: are open between 9.30am – 3.45pm (last admission)
